They should be reboots relative to previous films, not just to television series &c. They don't literally have to wear suits though. |

I have not seen the film. Why torture myself. I am sure it is a reboot. A re-telling of the story. Though...she is not considered a superhero by most. |

Posted - 02/19/2011 : 03:31:45 It doesn't matter that they're failed pilots, as they're still T.V.M.s, but Benj has excluded them from here now so it's by the by. The Lundgren one is what I was classifying the 1990 one as a reboot relative to. I assumed that Grayskull was the new one you meant.
Whatever the parameters end up being, they won't include The NeverEnding Story. |

What about the 1990 and 2002 films would they count? (I assume they are T.V.M.s, but that's fine.)
The only 1990 and 2002 He-Mans I see in IMDb are failed pilots for _series_ reboots, so far as I can see, so not sure if they'd count. The new version I was talking about seems to be officially dead: long ago there was a new live-action underway but it looks like it's also dropped off FWFR and IMDb. The Dolph Lundgren 'Masters of the Universe' rebooted the characters from the cartoon by putting them in the real world: doubt that qualifies though. If you're defining 'Superhero' very loosely as fantasy characters with special powers, there is a reboot of 'The Neverending Story' coming next year. |

Posted - 02/19/2011 : 00:29:14 Please could anyone let me know if any of the films now in the accolade are not reboots? Some of the additions are definitely not superheroes, but I haven't yet decided whether to exclude them or change the description. |

Posted - 02/18/2011 : 22:55:17 I was under the impression that Superman Returns was a reboot; my point was just that my "Superman suited and rebooted" should have been rejected; anyway, I reported it as soon as I learnt otherwise from this thread.
I don't doubt that comic books coined the term; Shakespeare coined lots of terms but that doesn't mean that no one else can use them. As well as the examples given, as far as I know the Incredibles were created for the film and Supergran and Bananaman for the television series.
If you can disprove the Wikipedia description, then you can (and should) edit it.
All that said, there are cases such as Frank Castle that may make it worth amending the accolade's parameters. |

Posted - 02/18/2011 : 02:16:58 Superheros not from Comic Books:
BlankMan Meteorman Underdog Hancock Popeye etc.
Edit: none of these are reboots yet. I wish Popeye was one. |

Not sure what you're trying to say here. If you're saying the MERPs seem unaware of what a reboot is or not, this thread is a good example of just how hard it is to tell. Heck, even you had Superman Returns (incorrectly) down as a reboot.

The accolade is nothing to do with comic books. Most superheroes are from comic books, but it's not universal.
Can you give an example of a superhero not from a comic book? As far as I'm aware the word was coined by American comic book publishers, but I could be wrong. Just want some kind of an idea of what sort of thing you're after.

Batman is a superhero; I don't care what anyone says. I am aware of his lack of superpowers but in overwhelmingly general usage they are not a requirement, and Wikipedia agrees with me.
I'm not entirely sure that adds any credence to your point of view |

Will have to have a think about films of television series. |
