I was rereading this old post and thought it was time for an update.

I kept many of the rules as before in the interest of creating a diverse list ...
Rule #1: No films that have a U.S. release date after December 31, 2009. The films on this list must pass the test of time.
Rule #2: At least 10% of the films on this list must be documentaries.
Rule #3: At least 10% of the films must be foreign language films.
Rule #4: At least 10% of the films must be silent films.
Rule #5: Film series will be treated as one entry (for example, the original Star Wars trilogy)
Rule #6: No more than three films on this list may be directed by the same director.
