Could anyone please tell me a Marx Brothers film or a film involving some kind of butch company, which features a woman who is dead or tardy?!

All I can think of is A Day at the Races, set partly in a sanitarium, when Groucho playing veterinarian Hugo Z. Hackenbush takes a woman's pulse and declares, "Either you're dead or my watch stopped."

In Ducksoup he arrives late as the character Rufus T. Firefly.

In A Night in Casablanca all the previous hotel managers have been murdered.

I don't recall any "butch company," though.

Are you sure it's a film with all the brothers, or one of the later ones with only Groucho?

Thanks. That's a lot of help. Do you know whether any of the managers in A Night in Casablanca had been female? Groucho on his own would probably do, so long as there was some other kind of ensemble in place of the brothers.

Re the managers: I think the film opens just after the 3rd manager has died; he's a guy and I can't remember whether the others are referred to by name, but given the era it's unlikely either of them would have been a woman.

In terms of plots to fit: check this out
. Ilona Massey may be the hard-bitten moll you need, though I don't think she actually dies. It also has the distinction of a fleeting appearance by a very young Marilyn Monroe. Harpo gets a story credit and it was originally designed as his solo venture, with Groucho and Chico coming into the project at a later stage. It's been decades since I've seen it, but it wasn't really their best.

I've submitted a couple. If either gets through (please, please), I'll give you a bunch of votes, B.B.

This might be good too, as it looks as though a woman (a wealthy widow) features prominently in the story.

It's such a good one, though, although not the type that will get many votes.
