The person they got to play Chekov is, indeed, a teen.

By the way, the plot, which I shall not spoil here, also sounds more like third-rate fan-fiction (I know that's a tautology, but you catch my drift).

Whatever you've heard about the plot, JJ Abrams has steadfastly denied every single rumor that's out there. All he's confirmed is that yes, it will focus on Kirk's Academy days.

Yeah, yeah - the same spiel we always get from the studios when something they don;t want to be leaked, leaks. The info we have is from trusted sources, and it sounds lame as hell.

I don't think that's funny at all. To take something that Mr. Koenig - and so many others - feel so strongly about and reduce it to a mere pun that doesn't even have anything to do with the actual story is a poor excuse for journalism. I find it quite distasteful, and frankly if I were the reporter I'd be mad as all hell that an editor turned my story into a great big joke.

I know very little about Karl Urban but as long as he can capture the biting cynicism of Leonard McCoy it shouldn't be too bad. The only one I still have a serious problem with is the choice for Scotty, and I guess Chekov because if they're trying to abide by the established biographical data for these characters, if Spock and Kirk are at the Academy Chekov should still be in high school chasing cheerleaders...so he really shouldn't be in this movie at all.

The casting process for the new Trek film should instead be called the miscasting process, with Karl Urban as McCoy as the most WTF! of it all. Bea Arthur would make a better young McCoy than Urban.

Winona Ryder is set to play Spock's Mother.
She looks more like a vulcan than a human. hehe.

I try to reserve all such opinions until after I've seen the film in question. I find my casting decisions tend to be correct more often that way...

Looks like a good match, actually.

"I'm happy ....to even be....considered ....for this role " said Chris Pine while eating a pie and running from side to side in a toupe.
