Just a few months ago we were all complaining how they used a real dog, who walks on all 4's, instead of a CGI's dog that looked like Underdog.
Now has anyone seen the Alvin and the Chipmunks trailor yet? In the cartoon they are half the size of humans. But in the movie....they are the actual size of chipmunks. Whats the deal? IF Alvin starts to sing the Christmas song "All I want is a Hula Hoop" Its never gonna fit around him? Whats the deal with movies that are taken from cartoons given a dose of reality? We dont want reality...we just want the movie to equal the cartoon.
I just hate to see what Hong Kong Phooey is going to look like. |

I snuck into the theater playing Alvin for about five minutes while waiting for Juno to begin in the theater next door. I have to admit that the animation on the Chipmunks were better and more nuanced than I expected for this kind of movie and the CGI combined with the live action pretty neatly. So it is a competently made film. The story, acting, dialogue, and comedy all fall about as flat as I expected (at least in the five minutes I saw). |

I see the Jetsons is scheduled to come out in 2009. Hope it turns out better than the Flintstones. I also hope Astro is CGI'd

I am just happy how Scooby Doo turned out. They didnt go find an actual Great Dane and made it talk. They went way of CGI. More Cartoon based movies should do this.
Imagine if they had gotten an actual ghost for Casper? Spooky. |

There's not much I can say about this movie...I'm consistently amazed by Hollywood's ability to crank out products that are obviously going to fail...who are these people that are green-lighting projects like this? What number-crunching are they doing that tells them the market will be receptive to these pieces of garbage?
This is probably a project that has been in development for 10 years or more and had too many hand stirring the pot, but they need to get it out there so that their copyright won't run out or so that it doesn't seem like they wasted all those years, or they have to fulfill some kind of contractual agreement or all three and more factors. I doubt somebody just wrote a shitty script one day, got greenlit the next, and was released a year or two later. |

Or the fact that neither Mickey nor Donald own a complete outfit. Donald gets the hat and sailor's top, whilst Mickey gets the trousers and shoes.
What bothers me most though, is that although Mickey has no top on, he still wears gloves- what's the deal with that? It is my belief that Mickey suffers circulation problems of some kind. |

It looks just awful. I used to like the Chipmunks as a kid. They weren't very sophisticated, but they were cute and the music had that annoying gimmick appeal. The Chipmunks clearly took on the personalities of human children, not actual chipmunks. The world just accepted their size and intelligence for that reason. The trailers make it look like the first three quarters of the movie will be gags about the miracle of talking chipmunks.
I guess that's what happens when you take animation and put it in the context of live action. Things have to "make sense" even if there is no sense to be made out of it. When Mickey Mouse takes Pluto for a walk, it shouldn't occur to anybody that mice are smaller and less intelligent than dogs. |

I guess Hollywood is trying to be too cute for their own good. If either of these films get here, I will avoid them both like the plague. |
