Posted - 01/20/2008 : 07:10:48 I bought my wife 'Hairspray' for Christmas. She liked the original so she also wanted the remake. I knew some of the actors who played in this movie and thought it would be a enjoyable viewing. We watched it a few nights ago. I remember John Travolta being in this movie from the media that it got and the trailers. But I did not know that a certain actress was in this movie.
When Michelle Pfeiffer appeared on screen I smiled from ear to ear. The first though that popped into my head was "Hey! ITs Grease 1 Meets Grease 2." I thought it was a great opportunity for a joke to be made about it in the movie. Too much Grease in one's hair or John being better than Michelle. Didn't this pop into anyone elses head? I think they missed a big opportunity to make a joke of it. Plenty of movies make fun of other movies.
Arnold makes fun of himself in 'Last Action Hero'. Actors who dou together in one movie make cameos in the opposite actors movie to make jokes about it. WOuld have made a better viewing experince for myself. IT was the only time Michelle and John were in a movie together.

Posted - 01/21/2008 : 07:14:22 I am sure the producers thought the film, nay, the zeitgeist, was fine as it is without any metatextual Grease/Grease 2 jokes.
I loved it, by the way. Great film.

Posted - 01/20/2008 : 09:40:25 I never saw Grease 2, and I wasn't all that crazy about Grease.
But you know, you now have the opportunity that they missed. Think up a Hairspray review that works this in!
Good luck! |
