Mrs Conan & I attended a packed Valentine's Day screening of this film last night and I'm glad to say it hits all the right notes in a bitter sweet romantic comedy. The performances are often poignant and it's terrific to see Ryan Reynolds bringing considerable charm to a role that's not all about bedding sophomores. The ladies are well cast with a special mention to Isla Fisher (Mrs Borat), a graduate from an Aussie soap, Home and Away. She stole The Wedding Crashers and lights up the screen in this film as well. Abigail Breslin is very sweet in her role as Reynolds' daughter as she tries to untangle to romantic mystery of where her mother fitted into her dad's life as divorce looms. Better than your average chick flick. |

Definitely, Maybe
I liked it too. The 'romantic mystery' premise is very contrived, especially as it assumes that a child of around ten would know nothing of her mother's background, but it manages to carry it off. Nice performances from all concerned, and one's sympathies are suitably drawn to the 'correct' choice. Also a nice touch to use the 1992 Clinton campaign in the story.
I don't like the choice of title, though. Are Oasis (the band) not known outside the U.K.? It wouldn't matter so much if the title fitted, but while it's vaguely relevant, it's not enormously. A much stronger title could have been carried by this film.

I just saw Reynolds in THE NINES and, from the evidence, decided he's a real actor. |

Just saw this and agree with Conan -- who undoubtedly means Abigail [not Amy] Breslin from Little Miss Sunshine.  Not the most original movie I've ever seen, but loaded with charm.
