Posted - 12/13/2009 : 06:22:30 Friends, I'm enormously proud to announce that I, as "Gary in Phoenix, Arizona," am one of three finalists of more than a hundred entrants in The Great Limerick Contest, conceived and conducted by Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic Roger Ebert.
Here is the link to the Final Round of Voting page that Roger has posted. The page includes photos, brief bios, and three sample entries from each finalist.
You'd be doing me a huge favor by going to the page, reading the limericks of all three of us finalists, and then voting, not necessarily for me, but for the writer of the best limericks. I heartily want to win, but I more heartily want to EARN that win!
THANKS for your attention! |

Update: I came in second. Read all about it, here.
Off-topic: I've cracked the Top 100 in total accepted reviews!!! :o)
Bravo!
Your second place probably had more to do with competing with a Chicagoan on their home turf who laments in poetry the Cubs losing streak.
(His limericks were okay, but with some very iffy scans in several places. Shouldn't push the meter that way - it just doesn't come out sounding right. But hey, it is a limerick, so I guess it doesn't matter all that much.)
((On second thought - who am I to talk? I've never had any of my formalist poems published.))
Chocolate Lady, you are tops in my book and I hope you do submit your poetry for publication. I would love to read it! Thanks for your generous comments. |

Congrats Clay.
V&V. You deserve the prize. I found Id more or less committed to memory your dolce vita one simply by reading it, which I take as a sign of poetic skill. That & the acrostic one are worthy of your fellow countryman Robert Conquest than which there is no higher praise, as far as Im concerned.
02BIrishs stuff is far too clean for the form, BTW.
Cheers.
Thanks so much! "V&V" -- big grin on that one! |
