Posted - 06/07/2007 : 14:44:26 the Alt key on the keyboard. What does it stand for. Does it stand for a word? I never really thought about it before. I might use it for a review. Could the ALT key stand for the word Alternate??? Anyone have any idea? I googled around a bit. But nothing helps out.

Posted - 06/07/2007 : 16:28:54 It actually is related to the key's function, which can be used in conjunction with other keys to alter the default function within a programme. Most users either won't have a clue about this or could care less. The Control key can be used for this, too, and less often the shift key. [nerdass]

Incorrect. Originally, the third set of characters on any given key - the ones accessible with the AltGr key - were printed in green. |

Non-US keyboards have an "Alt Gr" key to the right of the spacebar, and this is apparently "Alternate Graphic".
Go figure.
Me, I'm still trying to find the "ANY" key.
