Posted - 08/31/2008 : 09:10:49 My heart goes out to all those living around the Gulf Coast and particularly in New Orleans as this hurricane intensifies causing mass evacuations from the area. At first look it seems as though FEMA and the authorities have learned some Katrina lessons, but it must be so frightening and hopeless for people who are just beginning to get back on their feet after three years.
I hope all fwfrers and their friends and relatives are safe and dry.

This is indeed a tragedy, but it reaffirms my belief that New Orleans should not be rebuilt. Rebuilding New Orleans is not economically efficient and the only reason the US government is doing it is to hand out government contracts to all of their friends. New Orleans isn't a very inviting city and the crime and poverty rates are through the roof.
As a former citizen of Jackson, MS; a frequent visitor to New Orleans, one of the great treasures of the United States; and a proud descendant of the Acadian people, I have chosen to ponder this misinformed illogic without comment for a while. I may or may not be back. |

My daughter who is in the Kansas National Guard, is headed there to staff a mobile communications rig. |
