As we have a good selection of citizens from around the world who can generally relate to one another civilly, I was curious to know what your opinions were on our president's unexpected Peace Prize award today.
Frankly I like the guy and voted for him, but outside of an eff-you to Bush II, not sure that he has yet extended peace throughout the world. Presuming he continues to do good work are we to expect he will win every year (because I can only imagine that he can do even more peace extending over the next several years)?

I remain optimistic and I think the article fairly explains why I feel that way. I'd be even more optimistic if he can possibly get that health care reform bill passed, but that's a self-interest topic. And MguyX? That nuclear enrichment equipment next to his washing machine is the water softener.  |

Perhaps in retrospect 10 years from now, time and events will prove me to be a fool. Or, even more of one. |

I'm stunned. I don't pay too much attention to the selection process, being an avid warmonger and all, so I didn't even know he had been nominated. While I, too, like the President, I'm kind of left with the feeling that there must not have been anyone else in the running. I'm not knocking him; I just don't see how his accomplishments thus far match up with many of the previous winners.
On a gut level, however, I think the prize is sort of a nod to the U.S. in general, for electing a non-white president who ran and won on politics of inclusion and dialogue.
Though, upon thinking a little more, I guess being gutsy enough to buck decades of hawkish imperialism and actually opening dialogues with some of the more extreme regimes in the world is a significant thing, especially in the modren era of nuclear proliferation. Pretty soon, my neighbor will have the bomb: he's already refused to let me inspect what I believe is nuclear enrichment equipment next to his washing machine.  |
