"Four words, never backwards."

Hi all

You may or may not have noticed that Liz has not been around here, or on Facebook, for a while. She hasn't been, and remains, unwell. I reached out to one of her close friends earlier in the year to find out what's been going on.

Back in April/May she had a medium stroke and was in hospital and rehab for a while. /unfortunately, the stroke had an effect on her brain and she started refusing to be helped. She also did something to her computer that meant she wasn't able to get online. Her friend, and her sister were doing what they could, despite the resistance from Liz.

Fast forward to June and another message

Her estranged sister and another friend have stepped up and taken the majority of the burden. She has been in the hospital and nursing home, but is back at her apartment now, though against strong protest from us friends and sister.
We were trying to get her a longer stay to see if her physical and mental abilities could be built up. But though the testing came back as she is mentally diminished, and physically compromised, they STILL sent her home to her apartment with the same situation as she left.

Within a week, she alienated herself from the friend. 2 weeks after that, her sister had a MAJOR auto accident and has broken ribs and leg.
So as it stands now, Liz thinks everything is great as is, though she has fallen several times.
She refuses the thought of a nursing home and Adult Protection Services can't seem to force her.

From Liz, I live 60 miles away, her sister lives 15 miles away, and the friend she now despises lives about 8 blocks away.
Sister has no car now and has her own battles. Friend, who came down with Covid, refuses to continue taking her abuse. And I simple can not do anything further for her. It has come down to just keeping Adult Protect apprised of her issues and insist they have her best interest in mind.

The latest news is not good:

She is kind of in crisis, both mentally and to a lesser degree, physically. She has been tested as having dementia. She spent a week or so in the hospital then 3 weeks in a physical rehab. Her apartment was on the line, but her sister, a friend of Liz, and I pulled together and got her reinstated in July with certain restrictions. (No smoking inside) Last week she was served an eviction notice for breaking the agreement.

She is totally incapable of taking care of herself without close monitoring, which she had, but as of this week, that company has dropped her also due to her refusal to cooperate.

She will be going to either assisted care or a nursing facility in the next 3 weeks.
That's the bare bones of the situation.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought that all the old timers still here would want to know. I will update with any news as and when I get any.

Thank you for the update Chris. Liz contributed a lot to this site as a reviewer and a fourumite, so I am sad to hear this. I have nothing pithy or wise to say; I love you Liz.

Thank you for the info and update. Its sweet of you. She was an an amazing and witty woman. She made an imprint and impression on this site. Thoughts and prayers for livie, her friends and family. I hope to have made an impression on other fwiffers to reach out if I am not heard from in awhile.

This is very sad news and I assume, from what TitanPa has said in another thread, that she has died. A friend of my mum has just (up to a few days ago) been through the process of pretty sudden dementia, nursing home, decline and death, and everything about it is awful apart from the truism that death in such circumstances is a release.

Farewell wildhartlivie as Ill always still think of you.

Despite rumours to the contrary, Liz is alive and well. I messaged our mutual friend a few days ago and received a reply last night (the friend had been out of action with pneumonia and is now recovering). That's all I have for now, I'll bring more updates as and when I hear anything.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news again, but I have to report that Liz passed away on Saturday. This message from our mutual friend was waiting for me first thing this morning:

Liz passed last night.

Last Sunday, Patty (her sister) said she seemed about same as she had been. Then she started falling off quickly.
The doctor sent her to hospice Wed. And she wasn't conscious when Patty went to see her Wed when the nursing home called.
They called this morning with the news.
She refused dialysis so we assume that was what took her.

RIP.

I am sad to hear of Liz's passing. We kept up a friendship outside of FWFR, so it is with love I remember her and say "The first rule about Fight Club ..." (It was an inside joke between us). Rest in love and forever in my heart, dear Liz.

A sad goodbye to a FWFR stalwart in its heyday.

"But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity."

So sad to see this, although I feared that she had been quiet far too long on FB.

Livie, I'll miss you xxx
