It's a sign from God ... sorta.
I suppose that means something dirty in Europe or something.
In the United States, two extended fingers usually means "peace" (though the palm faces the viewer for the "peace sign").
Yep, the opposite way is to give someone the "forks" which is basically saying F-Off. |

I've heard that in some places, the thumb's up sign means "Up your ass" or something...

Ah, let me explain this peculiarly British hand gesture...
Way back when, the French and the English were at war. And I mean way, way back. Way, way, way back. If you want specifics, about 1000 years ago so technically not England and France, but go with it. When the French would try to storm English castles, their troops would be cut down by English archers firing from the battlements. Whenever the French captured an English Archer, they would cut the Index and middle fingers of the archers hands off to prevent them from drawing back the bow. So, in defiance, as the French approached, The English archers would stick two fingers up at the French in a nyah-nah-nah-nyah-nah weve-still-got-our-fingers gesture before raining down arrow-y death on them. This gestures meaning has changed slightly through the centuries, but still denotes defiance (illustrated splendidly by the punk youth of the 70s). It used to be considered quite rude, but has been superseded the ubiquitous single finger salute (as ably demonstrated by Stalean), and now enjoys a kind of homely, friendly, jocular life being thrown willy-nilly between friends.
The Peace sign is a much newer gesture. It seems to have originated from WWII through Winston Churchill though researchers are unsure to whether it meant V for Victory or where is my cigar?.

Back in the day when I picked up women in bars. I waited for the extended pinky and thumb sign from the ladies. It meant. "Call me". I hardly ever saw it....lol

It occurred to me that some folks may be missing the finer details of various avatars. So be advised that there are plug-ins that allow you to zoom in (enlarge) the avatars.
Try IEZoomer, for example.

I do it the geek way --MSIE: right click on image, select "properties" then copy the url and paste it into a new browser window to see it fullsize. OR right click on the avatar, then select print image then select preview image -- view it fullsize then cancel printing.
Firefox: right click and select view image.

In Opera you touch the "plus" button on the numeric keypad and it zooms the entire page. Or press the "minus" and it shrinks it. Press the "*" and it goes back to normal.

I got stuck in Seattle for an extra day, Bill Gates said my company was priceless and refused to let me fly back commercially, insisted I take his private jet today.
Please try to get your avs posted while I try to catch up with the rest of the universe. |

Had a tough time narrowing this field down to three. But I did what I had to do and signed over my votes to Cheese_Ed.
