The World Cup gets going in less than 24 hours, so this was not a difficult decision.
No penalties for imaginative interpretation.
Opportunity for a free kick against a player you don't like.
(Almost) nothing off-side.
Attractive strip a bonus. |

Y'all know how cranky I get sometimes about soccer, because so many of today's little girls would rather play soccer than ride a pony.
Here's an emerging sport that could bring girls and soccer together with horses in a very positive way: Horse Soccer. |

This topic is disturbingly close to Football, which we had not too long ago, but we'll go with it in honor of the World Cup...

That was for Football in general, this time it focuses on the players. |

I don't know if the phrase has traveled across the pond, but in this country, we have a stereotype called the "soccer mom." As I understand it, a soccer mom is a mother who does not have a job, and therefore has nothing to do with her life except to emotionally support her elementary school aged children to the point of overindulgence. This includes driving their children and their childrens' friends to activities such as after-school soccer practice, often in SUVs, mini-vans, or other large, multi-seating gas-guzzlers.
P.S. I used Shaolin Soccer as my football avatar last time 'round. I loved that film so much that I bought the DVD the week it came out! |

I think when it comes to soccer players and the World Cup, it usually begins and ends with Brazil 1970 team. They were truly immense, and with technocolour televisions in its birth in the beginning of the seventies, the infamous Gold and green shirts will be etched in the mind of every football fan as one of their favourites. Sorry for the spiel about that.

Yep. 'Soccer players' is to 'football' as 'Christmas songs' is to 'Christmas'...
...or 'interpretation of bands/singers' is to 'singers'...
...or 'movie posters' is to 'movie stars'...
...or 'Star Wars aliens' is to 'Star Wars'. [14]
