Hilarious!
As a former adman -- who learned the judicious use of sentence fragments in the trade -- I'd like to ask you: what exactly constitutes the Best. Commercial. Ever. ?
Memorability?
The U.S. anti-drug spot "This is your brain on drugs" is still referenced today. It has achieved nothing.
Stagecraft?
The famous Ridley Scott "1984" spot introducing the Macintosh was broadcast only once, during the Super Bowl, but it's still remembered as one of the most effective ever, and rivals your Gremlins in floor effects.
Entertainment?
That's what I think you're getting at, right? Then I'll give it to the sock puppet for Pets.com. No, wait, that should be Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog. |

Randall - To be honest, I was using the hyperbole in the subject line as a reference to the Comic Book Guy's signature phrase.
Did you like Mad Men, by the way? I can't wait for its second season.

I like that score a lot too, but Jerry Goldsmith composed it. Got to give credit where credit's due. |

I watched Mad Men once. I thought it was excellent, but I also thought it was horribly depressing (to me) and I have no plans to watch again. |

I saw a couple of MAD MENs, and they touched a tad too close. I slaved over ads from 1975-1988. Books from 1988-2001. I adored the Sixties era of the copywriter, which is a little after MAD MEN is set. No hype: I was there, but I lived thru the period when the writer was supplanted by the art director, and from MTV onward, scratch the word "art."
Sour grapes? Then give me the giant billboard depicting sour grapes -- otherwise I'll just smolder. |
