Step right on over
Step Brothers and out the other side. Our survey says unh-unh!

More later now.

OK - what we got here is a treatise on neoteny with jokes appropriate to a target market which will giggle at the thought of a guy threatening to smear his ball sac all over his step-brother's drumkit ... and then doing exactly that. Or will clap and cheer when two 40-year-olds beat the living crap out of a playground full of pre-pubescent snot-nose kids who, admittedly, have been bullying said bros - but hey, as I said - THEY ARE KIDS, you dumb ass retards. I mean you can put lipstick on a pair of asswipes and they're still asswipes.

Not that they wear lipstick or anything, but you just know if either of them did score one of the hot tamales gracing their bedroom walls, they'd be trying on her bra in the bathroom and smearing themselves in pizza.

You started it. Did not.

... is the level of communication we're talking about. We got Spoiled Bratman versus StupidBoy -- the capes are optional.

The film [as predictable as any by the Apatow-heavy HolyMoly How-the-frumk-are-they-getting-away-with-this-shit Team] shakes up an interesting idea with warm coke just enough to barf in your face.

What makes this dungbag watchable, [although I - who laugh at the opening of an envelope - didn't chuckle once] what makes it bearable is the skill of actors whom we've all seen being So Fine in other vehicles. The calibre of Mary Steenbergen as the step-bros Moms, her late-marriage hubby Richard Jenkins, and the bros themselves - Will Ferrell and John C Reilly. This is NOT the Ferrell of Stranger Than Fiction - which proves yes he CAN act, nevertheless he's committed enough to sustain the lunacy, as indeed is Reilly. Now he really can deliver a range of wonderful screen personas.

Sadly, the film is a one-joke pony and the joke just ain't good enough. The more interesting tale might have been a better balance between the goof-ball phase and staying with the two schmucks as they try to achieve some growth. I'm betting they could really have wrung some great comedy out of that.

Instead it's metaphorical water pistols of piss in your gob all the way. The whole music thing, btw, is a total contrivance and wipes out any scintilla of credibility.

Or - if it's your penchant - strip to your jockeys, get high and laugh yourself to sleep. Wanker!

It's corny but I found it endearing and at some moments hilarious.

Not funny at all. The essential gag at the center of the movie is a 6-minute SNL sketch if that. The two guys are major-league repulsive when they hate each other and even harder to watch when they like each other. Nice to see Richard Jenkins get an up-front in a big comedy, tho.
