Nights in Rodanthe
Some back story.

Paul's a surgeon and his estranged son's a surgeon. His wife's walked out.
Adrienne's a mom of two - snitty mini-skirted teen and more subdued younger brother. Dad Jack was pretty much kicked out after cheating on her. She's also an artist who put it all on hold for the fam.

Jean, her oldest pal from the art days is a single woman who runs a sea-front wind-swept New England retreat of an inn, but who's heading for the sun where she hopes to sell some art, and who knows, maybe meet Mr Right. Adrienne's about to leave for a week or so to look after the place for Jean - just as Jack asks to come back home.

Adrienne figures she'll use the inn to do some serious thinking, while Jack takes care of the kids. There'll only be one guest, says Jean.

Which is when Paul shows up. There's a storm abrewing - as if you hadn't already guessed.

If everything isn't already pointing the way to predictability, once you learn a couple of extra facts, that path will be lit up like an airport runway. I won't give those facts away in case I haven't already disuaded you from buying a ticket to this old-fashioned weepie. Wait till you've already got a runny nose, your widdle toesies are comfy in their furry socks, and you're well-stocked up with tissues -- and it comes on the telly.

Does anyone please know how to pronounce Rodanthe? I'll see it in the next couple of days and it's embarrassing not being able to say the film name when one buys a ticket.

I'm pretty sure it's set in the Florida Keys by the way, not New England!

Oh dear, there is a lot wrong with it but I cannot remember exactly what now as I am too ill. At least Gere is still looking good and the inn is like a childhood fantasy building. After Oz, it's hard to think of Meloni as anything other than a filthpot.

Actually it's set off the coast of North Carolina. I was using "New England" to refer to the architecture. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, I see.

And actually North Carolina makes sense, given the song at the beginning. I thought they were just being random. I just assumed that it was in Florida due to the Orlando/Miami references. (Well, I guess some parts are in Florida, just not the inn ones.) Sorry for the incorrect correction.
