He was clearly in his dotage, but I gathered my courage and walked up to his cafe table at a science fiction convention in Brighton in '86 and told him how wonder-full-y he had influenced my life by introducing me to the classic icons of sf and horror. He graciously shook my hand, acted as if it was the first time he'd ever heard these words, and patted me on the back. To my best friend, who was standing nearby, Forry's wife Wendy whispered [I found out later], "I can't count how many others have told Forry the same thing."
