You might be right. I think his leading performance in "The Assassination of Jesse James" is superb - but it might be up for debate if that is a supporting role too.

His role in "Assassination of Jesse James" certainly plays off his leading man status -- Jesse James is played by the Sexiest Man Alive and the Coward Robert Ford is played by a movie star's kid brother. But yeah, honestly, I'd call that a supporting role too -- that's definitely Casey's show. It is one of Pitt's better performances though.
