I work with my creative partner Dave. Our placement was originally supposed to be 2 weeks, after which 2 other creative teams were having 2 weeks each. One team would win a place on the grad scheme.
We did such good work that the creative director asked us if we wanted another week, this time in the digital department. At the end of that week, the work we were doing was going so well that the account team didn't want us to leave, and so actually asked the creative director if we could stay another week! He gave us 2.
During this time, the first of the other creative teams came in for their placement. After their 2 weeks was up, we were told we had "blown them out of the water".
And then yesterday, at 5:45pm, me and Dave were asked by the creative director if we would like a job as a creative team! We couldn't believe it. Dave actually went a bit white and had to have a sit down, whilst I simply couldn't stop my face from grinning like a stoned Cheshire Cat.
There is seemingly no sign of the 3rd team; perhaps the agency told them not to bother coming in.
I'm now sitting at my desk, still grinning, with a cup of tea and some cereal (which I just got from the big cereal cupboard in the office - the one near the beer fridge and the ice cream freezer.)
I love working here.
Oh, I'd appreciate your help here: the agency summer party is on Wednesday; the theme is 80s. Any film-related ideas for what I can go as...?
EDIT: Before anyone makes a joke, the theme is obviously the 1980s, not 80s as in the age of octogenarians.

| How about Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything? Find a radio-cassette player to carry over your head and you'll be instantly transported back to 1989. |

As in our MisterBadIdea, you mean? Yes, good one.
On the other hand, 80s blockbusters included ET, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and the first two Back to the Future movies. That's a whole lot of adventure and Sci-Fi. I'd go with that.
(Of course, some of the women might prefer to don lots of upper body padding and go as Dolly Parton in 9 to 5, to make the guys drool!) |

Of course, you or Dave may wish to go as Dolly Parton
You could put on the leather jacket and sunglasses and turn up as Maverick and Goose from Top Gun. Or the "other two" from the Village People.
If you want to cover the 80's both ways, find a character from Cocoon. |

- Leave a trail of Reese's Pieces and tell 'em you're Elliot from ET. - Wear a black suit, fedora & sunglasses: Blues Brothers. - One of you looks buff, one puts on 40 pounds. DeNiro at the beginning & end of Raging Bull. - Wear a red dress & curly wig: Tootsie. - Indian dress & wire rim glasses - Gandhi.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words Haven't had time to reply til now I've been so busy!
As brilliant as some of your suggestions were, in the end I had to make do with raiding my housemate's room for any 80s-ish clothes and throwing together a crap outfit. It consisted of an I Heart NY t-shirt and some aviators (the only 2 items that were mine), some very baggy white cargo pant things, a grey cardigan, and a pair of white high-top trainers with luminous yellow laces. I didn't actually make it home after the party so I had to go to work the next day dressed like this. I got a lot of stares.
What I'd really wanted to go as was a Ghostbuster, but unfortunately I've lost my proton pack.
