I havent been to a cinema for almost a year , catching them on DVD instead.
Reasons? I just wasn't prepared to put up with the generally selfish nature of cinema crowds who either acted like they were in their own house , at a party or in an all-u-can eat Buffet. The film seemed almost incidental to many of the audience who preferred to catch up with the latest news. I wouldn't consider myself anti-social and have no problems with loud Bars or Sports Bars or anywhere people gather to eat, drink and talk. Its just that i want to watch the film without 101 Distractions.
Plus it's gotten really expensive - at least 3 x a rental fee from the DVD shop ( plus i really like the cute Girl at the DVD shop who actally giggles at my Kevin Smith references  )

not only that, the biggest screen in town. if it's going to be Iron Man, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Titanic (in which Rose mentions Freud's theories on men's preoccupation with size), it has to be at one of the theaters with a huge screen and stadium seating. even then, i refuse to pay full price. always discount matinee showing or second-run theater (formerly $1, now up to $5, depending on time and feature). |

That's true, but I think it's more to do with the fact Chav and Chavette would be seriously confused confronted with fair trade coffee and carrot cake at the confectionary counter as opposed to the usual cinema fare.
But macaroons can be frightening too. |

Here's a thing I was reminded of tonight that is rather strange: why, when some people are fucking around with their scarves or handbags or whatever they suddenly need to rearrange in the middle of the film, do they think it's O.K. to pointlessly stretch their arms up in the air for several seconds? |

Ditto. I did a midnight screening once and expected it to be full of drunk people who'd been kicked out their boozer in the last hour. Turns out it was, but all the ones anywhere near me fell asleep in the first 10 minutes- result! |

I would feel my life very diminished without the cinema experience - DVD is great, and I watch a lot, but its not enough. Some films must be seen on the big screen. Like Sal I tend to go at antisocial hours when the place won't be packed with kids and cretins, but the other aid is going to a half decent independent cinema where the cretins feel out of place. I have no problems whatsoever at my local because its nice cafe, homemade cake on the counter and eclectic screening program seems to scare off those with a low IQ. |

That's true, actually. If I only go to see one film, I pay more than double for the bus (�1.80) what I pay for the film. It does add up. |
