Time to grab your sunscreen, passport, and Pepto-Bismol.
We're taking a trip to the land of Mariachis, Margaritas, and Montezuma's Revenge.... Sunny MEXICO!

(This topic has been on my mind of late, as Mrs. Wheelz and I will be heading there for real in a few weeks -- the rest of you can join us virtually!)

Second didn't have a tie, my bad, a typo.
MguyX Posted - 10/04/2006 : 21:43:03
Who was tied for second place? Inquiring losers want to know!
Stalean Posted - 10/04/2006 : 18:39:47
I wouldn't want Montezuma's Revenge, oh cheezy one! Thanks for the votes to all Mr. Bean supporters (looks like he could have used some more support--if you get my drift). I hope Wheelz avoided the black market Viagra whilst on vacation. Next topic coming up shortly.

This contest will end prematurely. Need votes in the next 12 hours or so, otherwise I won't be here to get it done.

Vamos!
Wheelz Posted - 10/03/2006 : 23:25:09
I voted, but if it's anything like the last Mexican election, the results will surely be protested.
Basselope Posted - 10/03/2006 : 20:37:06
Snuck across the border and voted!
TitanPa Posted - 10/03/2006 : 18:24:16

No, it was Olympic Blue. I was very keen on it, but actually I was sold a pup. I discovered too late that it had been in a shunt (the front wheels weren't quite aligned, so one was slightly ahead of the other, hard though it may be to believe) and had been thrashed so the engine was 'flat' and never performed as well as it should. But I beat an MGB GT in a race, and enjoyed some off-road thrills, so I can't complain too bitterly (mind you, I always spit when I pass the place where I bought it).

I traded it in for another Escort, a Mk II RS2000 that was almost new. It was far quicker and more of a poseur's car, but the Mexico had more character. I've been looking at second hand values for sporty Escorts, but they seem absolutely barmy. I would be far better getting a Lotus Elise that's a few years old than say an RS1800 that's getting close to its natural life span.

Lots of people used to rave about Lotus Cortinas. I can't remember whether they did Mk II ones as well, but I believe the Mk I Lotus was easily recognisable because it had a wide green stripe down the side and was otherwise white. I expect it was the inspiration for the sporty Escorts, beginning with the Twin Cam.

I've pretty much punted on this one - I was looking for a Rowin Atkinson in a mexican get up but realize StaLean has the best possible Mr Bean avatar.

Just what everyone wants: a backseat driver.

I have fond memories of my old Ford Escort Mexico Mk I. It was inspired by the car that Hannu Mikkola drove to victory in the London to Mexico Rally in about 1970.

And here is my wife valeting the rear.
