Hiya FWFRers.
I chose this week's topic of football (or soccer for across the pond) for two good reasons.
1) My team Arsenal hit the heady heights of the Champions League Semi Final for the first time in their history.
2) It is one of my favorite sports ever.
So bring all the pics that you can to the Stadium of the Avatar.
My one represents that this team is exposed at the back
Mampers thinking that Arsenal could win the Champions League.

Mampers, much as it galls me to say it as a Manyoo fan, but I think the Gooners have a great chance this year. They've got past Real (something United couldn't do a few years back, tsk!), and completely embarassed Juventus twice... next it's the dizzy heights of the semis and.. Villareal!? They're a bit of a surprise ticket, but I wouldn't presume to be in the final just yet! If ye can keep Riquelme quiet though, Villareal are yours for the taking.. and then Barca or Milan in the final...
I would really love to see this Arsenal team play Barcelona in the CL final. Ronaldinho, Larsson, Messi, and Henry on the same pitch.. <...salivates like Homer Simpson >
.... could be Henry's swansong for before he actually signs for Barca!! |

Ooo aaaah, Eric Can-to-naa.
Ok, so he kicked a Crystal Palace fan, but what he did on the pitch was... awesome. Not many players make the game beautiful, but Eric did. Collar up, chest puffed out, wacky poetry at the ready, the man was mercurial on the pitch, and a shoe-in to Manchester United's all-time greatest side. The fans still sing his name.
His press conference after that karate kick has gone down in footie/tabloid journalism lore: As the journalists gathered to hear him speak, Cantona entered the room, sat down and said in a slow and deliberate manner; "When the seagulls... follow the trawler... it's because they think... sardines will be thrown... into the sea". He then got up from his seat and left, leaving many of the assembled crowd bemused.
Genius!! |

Cheeseball.
Soccer on a cracker? (AKA Football on a biscuit).
The British are just crackers about football (and cheese, Gromit).
This cheese is a lovely shade of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD!
Manchego United?
Yellow cards look delicious.
What brand of cracker goes best with football fans? Club.
Plenty of cheese in my avatar Arsenal. That's one cap for Cheese_ed.
I'd play pyramide-field.
I bet I could score with my deadly cheese-headers.
What happened to the footballer who ate too much cheese? He got an obstruction... and had trouble passing.

As the picture clearly shows, I agree that it was never a handball too. |

Congrats on your first avatar win, Mampers!
The new theme made me laugh, because I like to joke about how much I 'hate' soccer.
'Football' is OK...but American soccer sucks! The reason that I think so is because as a horseback riding teacher, I find myself having to compete with little girls' soccer games for my students' time.
When I was a child, there really weren't any girls' sports programs. Lots of girls where I grew up had a pony or a horse instead. Nowdays, when I find a riding student who is talented, chances are that she won't be very committed to excellence in her horsemanship because her parents have dreams that she'll someday win a soccer scholarship. Soccer always comes first. And that stinks! |

It's got to be our year mampers - it's so close I can almost touch it.
Only downside to this run is the number of nights I have had to get up at 3 in the morning to watch the game - but I'll be happy to do it three more time!
And votes coming the way of a fellow Gooner - think you and me are the only two Arsenal-fwfrers |
