I cannot remember when a trailer last made a film seem so rubbish - the film can surely only be better. If you haven't seen it, the totally moronic concept is that in fifty years the Sun is burning itself out and needs to be relit by astronauts.  |

I have never heard of the film nor seen the trailer, but given the premise as relayed by Salopian it sounds horrible - you can enlighten us after seeing it in the flesh celluloid. |

This actually has potential, I guess, from a sci-fi point of view.
Has anyone here read Sundiver? Pretty cool, but most people would say that it's "totally absurd."
That said, I have long ago given up hope on getting "good sci-fi" from movies, it's usually more mainstream crap (looking over at the Skywalker clan when I say that) |

| So we are 93 million miles from the sun but in 50 years we will be able to fly into it and fix the sun? Sorry this looks like asteroid with a prettier, younger and mostly british cast - looks horrible - unless they get Aerosmith to do the theme song. |

Well, yeah, I forgot the fifty year thing. I guess they did that so they didn't have to be so creative with the set design.
(when was "I, Robot" set? Same problem suspending disbelief) |

| stars don't tend to change much in 50 years - robotics possibly could - I'll reserve judgment on this until it comes out, but it sounds a bit (okay terribly) far-fetched. |

I've gotta disagree. When I first heard about this project, I didn't sound promising, in part because of the premise but mostly because I've been quite underwhelmed by Danny Boyle. But the trailer (I think) makes it look incredible. Pretty pictures ... the whole contraption apparently flying right into the sun ... and Cillian Murphy's always a plus. I'm definitely excited about seeing it. Of course, trailers can lie ... we'll see.
Besides, ridiculous premises come with the sci-fi territory. I myself find this more palatable than a benevolent, all-powerful alien race leaving behind large black rectangular objects in an attempt to guide our evolution.  |

Probably why I dislike most sci-fi. It must be incredible action, cool dialogue, etc. for me to enjoy sci-fi - like the first Matrix.
Again my comments are simply on the premise given that most stars live millions of years, yet the sun is going from middle age star to dying in 50 years? Armageddon is more plausible (not plausible, but more so than the Sun dying out). If the sun was dying out - even if it lost 5% of its power we'd have an ice age - so I can't get past how the Earth is either not frozen over or the Sun is cool enough to receive a space craft.
Again on the film itself, I reserve judgement, but the plot sounds very silly.
UPDATE
Ok so I watched the trailer and since it is just a bunch of action scenes spliced together I still can't say one way or another. |
