| This slid under the radar for me last week and I should have seen it. Actor John Schneider, who co-starred in the original Dukes of Hazzard TV series, placed his 1969 Dodge Charger, General Lee, up for sale on Ebay. Things got a bit crazy, with bogus bidders and the like, and the final bid was for $9,900,500.00, which turned to be phony. I wrote the seller to ask what the outcome of the bidding was, but to date, I haven't heard back. What a world! |

Nooooooo, the Dodge Charger was never my cup of tea. Give me a Ford Mustang, baby. A Rangoon red two door coupe with a 210 horsepower V8, front bucket seats and a 4 speed on the floor. I LOVED that car. |

| There were literally hundreds of General Lees. I don't know how many survive, but I imagine that there must be enough that they are not worth a huge amount each. |

The really huge value of this one in particular is that it is one of the original cars used in the TV show and has been kept all these years by Wopat. However, the '69 Charger is a dream car for those that love the muscle cars of that era. Those that are in pristine condition or have been restored are in great demand and the ones that are General Lee replicas are in the neighborhood of $30,000.00 USD. |

Could the Dodge Charger do all those stunt drives for real? I read something where Soul and Glazier were saying the Gran Torino, the car in the Starsky and Hutch series, was a dog to drive because the backend swung out all the time |

They had several versions of the same car that were modified for specific types of stunts such as roll bars, stabilization bars, rear sway bars, modified suspension and the like. Then they had the "real" General Lee that they used for just driving around. Some of them had a console which was said to be quite uncomfortable when Cousin Daisy had to sit on it. Other versions had a center seat slightly behind the console. So to answer your question, yes, some version of the car did the stunts.
The Ford Torino started as essentially an upscale model of the Ford Fairlane, which was an intermediate sized and powered car. The Starsky & Hutch car was modified, but it wasn't the street car that the Dodge Charger. Both were considered muscle cars, but muscle car afficionados seem to prefer the Charger. Maybe it does have something to do with its handling. |
