I just had to pop in to register my awe at Sen's ability to penguinise anything and everything.

EDIT: I'm obviously not entering the avatar contest, so I hope posting doesn't mess anything up

I'll wager that no one who has watched the 1973 film Don't Look Now will forget the use of red throughout.

This is an actual "I'm glad you asked that question" situation.

I have recently become obsessed with red food coloring. My parents keep kosher, and my sister and her kids are vegetarian. So we were surprised to learn that a product called "Meatless Corn Dogs" sold at Trader Joe's under their own label contains a red dye called "Carmine".

Carmine is made by crushing the cactus parasite pictured on your left, which is known as Cochineal.

Do the Meatless Corn Dogs have a hechsher? It doesn't sound likely if they are made with carmine: "All winged swarming things that walk on all fours shall be an abomination to you" (Leviticus 11:20). Also, I don't remember which book it is written, but it is also forbidden to eat of an animal that is found dead of natural causes.

According to this site, Carmine isn't Kosher. But with our without a Hechsher, the Carmine sounds disgusting.

I never heard of that website. When I clicked on it earlier today, it said "This page will not display." Then I clicked on it on Motzei Shabbat and it worked.

Hey all I am back from vacation.

Thanks for the votes of the previous round.

Everyone remember 'Alice In Wonderland'?

The Deck of cards planted the wrong color roses. The Queen of Hearts wanted red. And boy she had a temper. So they had to paint the white roses with red paint.

Sanguine about the virtues of voting, regardless of the electoral college, I crayoned my votes in crimson.
