The quintessential question for midnight movie goers:

"Whatever happend to Saturday Night?"

[If you don't know where that's from, you're probably dead.]

...Heroes?

Whatever happened to Leon Trotsky?
He got an ice pick
That made his ears burn
Whatever happened to dear old Lenny?
The great Elmyra and Sancho Panza?
Whatever happened to the heroes?
Whatever happened to the heroes?

Whatever happened to all the heroes?
All the Shakespearoes?
They watched their Rome burn
Whatever happened to all the heroes?
Whatever happened to all the heroes?

No more heroes any more
No more heroes any more

Whatever happened to all the heroes?
All the Shakespearoes?
They watched their Rome burn
Whatever happened to the heroes?
Whatever happened to the heroes?

No more heroes any more
No more heroes any more

Whatever happened to...

Thigh length boots?

Saucy postcards?

There are still postcards around with acres of naked flesh, but the saucy seaside postcards so popular among British holidaymakers don't sell like they used to.

(If you can't make out the caption, the police officer is saying: "anything you say will be taken down". The drunk replies: "Knickers!")

A brief history on a quasi-BBC site.

This was a holiday snap I took in the town of Cordoba, Spain. Before 1492, this town was home to Christians, Muslims, and Jews who generally lived in peace with each other, knew each other's languages, traded goods and services with each other, and respected and even learned from each other's cultures. After 1492, the Spanish monarchy expelled all of the Jews from Spain and Cordoba's Jewish Quarter (or Juderia as it is called today) is now not much more than a poor marketplace for tourists with a few nice restaurants around the old Islamic mosque that was converted into a beautiful cathedral after the Christian conquest of the area in the 13th century.

One of the great Jewish religious philosophers of all time, Maimonides, lived in Cordoba and his name, image, and quotations can be seen all over town. My avatar is a picture of a hotel down the block from the hotel I stayed in called Hotel Maimonides that, I was sorry to see, served pork and shellfish in the hotel restaurant.
