It didn't stink any worse than Lucas' other efforts of late.

At least he didn't manage to work Jar Jar in this one.

It is one of Spielberg's finest films. A magnificent achievement.

There's apparently an absolute corker of a script by Frank Darabont written a few years back that Spielberg and Ford loved. Lucas didn't of course (I'm guessing it didn't have enough ruddy aliens). I'd really love to know what that would have been like.

I hate to burst this hate-bubble but that script, too, involved aliens.

Dagnabbit!

Also, I wish I could get a hold of this supposedly impossible to find script that everyone else appears to have read

I might be able to help you with that. I don't have it anymore, but know a few people who do, and I'll put in a few calls. Not promising anything, mind. My script-gathering abilities are no longer what they used to be.

I thought the Darabont script was about tunnelling into the centre of the earth and more Nazis. Was Jules Verne lying to us - are there aliens in the centre of the earth and not dinosaurs??

Perhaps there'll be zombies in Indy V?

I do hope you're not messing with me here- that is one script I would love to read

I've sent some emails - let's see how it goes.

Demonic - The Darabont script did have Nazis, yes, but it also had other stuff like the Crystal Skull mythology, flying saucers, and the nuclear village intro (in fact, Indy's surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge goes as far back as 1983, and the first draft of Back to the Future, believe it or not). I think it also had Indy's "evil" brother, but that might have been the discarded Boam draft, or the "Saucer Men from Mars" script. Mac and Mutt have both, obviously, evolved from that idea.

Yes, well they should have left the nuke/fridge episode in 1983 where it belongs.

To be fair, I did enjoy that bit- probably the first 40 minutes in fact, but thinking about it afterwards... let's be honest, the only thing that would have come out of that fridge afterwards would have been Indy mush. This was the equivalent of Indy being crushed by the big boulder in Raiders and then peeling himself up off the floor afterwards.

He does that in the Lego Indiana Jones video game.
