Hello one and all.
I don't know if this topic has come up anywhere else on the Fourum, but I am wondering if any of you FWFRers are on Twitter. I figured as lovers of brevity, you might be into it.
I've actually got two Twitter accounts going, both pretty obscure. The more popular is Wayne Kotke. Wayne's the name of a zombie character I play on a weekly podcast called Mail Order Zombie, a program about direct-to-DVD zombie movies. The basic gist of the character is that he's a more genteel, well-mannered zombie who is deeply concerned about how "the living impaired" are portrayed in the media. Wayne does a little editorial at the end of every Mail Order Zombie episode, and he's even got his own Twitter account and e-mail address. If you want to hear what I sound like, just download any Mail Order Zombie episode from #35 onward. Wayne's editorials generally come at the very end of the show, right before the closing theme. Personally, I'd stick with the ones from the last few months, when I switched to doing my part by MP3 instead of voicemail. The segments I do for MOZ have gotten fairly elaborate -- music, sound effects, ongoing stories, etc. In one recent plotline, for example, Wayne founded his own Scientology-esque religion called Kotketology.
In addition to doing tweets as a fictional character, I have an account that I do as myself called Items Of Delight. The premise is really simple: each day I post one thing I find delightful. It's a deliberate attempt to force myself to be positive for at least a few seconds per day. Unfortunately, Items has almost no followers. I'm posting this here in the hopes of getting at least a few readers. Generally, Items is only one tweet per day, while Wayne posts all the time. I try to make both accounts fairly entertaining -- no mundane updates on the minute details of my life, just stuff I find amusing. |

I don't "get" Twitter. I have 3 accounts I've never done much with, 2 are my own and one is for a client.
I went to the trouble of learning how to text updates to Twitter. Ho hum.
I remember MguyX posted once that if he twittered, it would be, "OK, I'm typing now."
"OK, I'm still typing."
"I'm still typing."
I think for Twitter to really mean something to me, it would need to offer the option to have selected updates texted to my cell phone. Otherwise, I ignore it. |

It took me a while to get into Twitter, but eventually I found it to be sort of the microblogging equivalent of Four Word Film Review. The challenge, to me, is to say something interesting/funny/worthwhile in 140 characters or fewer. As far as the social networking revolution goes, I much prefer Twitter -- which is fast-paced and generally lighthearted -- to the needy, intrusive Facebook, which is basically a hellish high school reunion that never, ever ends.
I do most of my posting as Wayne Kotke. The other account is mainly for "following" various people -- namely my geeky pop culture idols. At least two people from Spinal Tap have Twitter accounts as do several MST3K alums, plus Weird Al, Pee-wee Herman, Dolly Parton, Tracy Morgan, and plenty of others. |

| Incidentally, I think most people actually do use Twitter through their cell phones or other mobile devices. I go through the web, but I'm a relative Luddite. |

Heh, yeah she did. And her daddy has been trying to get her back on ever since, or so I read. I'm on Twitter at, believe it or not, @wildhartlivie. I find it kind of interesting. I find some of the tweets fairly amusing - John Mayer (@johncmayer), @ThisIsRobThomas, @EthanSuplee, @JohnLarroquette can be sort of deep (and will actually respond to tweets in the middle of the night), Lou Diamond Phillips (@LouDPhillips) seems to cook a lot and then tweet about it, I kind of like the mini-fantasy/adventures that @BrentSpiner does occasionally (the last one had him kidnapped by aliens because they watched him on Star Trek), and I never miss @shitmydadsays. It's too funny. And then I can stay updated on my Dancing with the Stars contestants and the next news about the Twilight stars. Well, sort of. I follow @peterfacinelli.
Some I often consider unfollowing - Marlee Matlin waxes much too politic for me and when Kevin Smith gets on a roll, he might tweet for two hours. Then again, he tweeted for 24 hours straight on Labor Day and I dropped him for the day. Then there are those who use to hawk their shows. Bleghh. |

| I don't get the point of Twitter. It seems to be just like Facebook statuses. |

Yeah I've said to people before, they've basically just made an entire site out of that one Facebook feature.

Yep, I tend to agree and I'm not convinced it's going to have the staying power of more fully-featured community sites. However, until it falls out of favour, I think it could potentially be a great promotional tool, so I set up an automated fwfr account some time ago: http://www.twitter.com/4wfr |

I sent you a tweet to follow the four of us FWFRs on Twitter. I didn't realize you were there and I've started following you. Gentleman Ghost and I have tweeted some reviews on the timeline already. |
