419 scams derive their name from the numerical fraud code in Nigerian law. Many, but certainly not anywhere close to most, eminate from Niger. Hence the quote marks. It's the Nigerian scam, only "he"'s "from" "Cote."

He may well be from Cte d'Ivoire. I'm guessing at some stage victims would end up transferring 'fees' to his account there, and it would ring alarm bells if the bank account was in Nigeria (or a different place from where he claims to be from). Also, his English is a lot worse than most of those scammers, suggesting he's not from Anglophone Africa (few speak English even in Abidjan, French is most necessary there).

These things started in Nigeria, but people of other nationalities followed suit when they learned how much money there was to be made from scamming the gullible. All that's needed is a scammer's psychopathic mindset, and a complicit government that has no intention of stopping the influx of capital into their impoverished country by cracking down on the criminals. Oh, and an incredibly gullible victim.

I got it, too. Everyone got a private message and an email, right?

I got a PM here as well as an email. I'm wondering if there is any connection with my signing up with the Facebook thing, since that's one of the very few places that connect this place with that particular email address.

I'm not on Facebook (I might be soon, enough with the emails already!), so I doubt it's that.

And I love TitanPa with the heat of a thousand nuns.

I thought a PM through fwfr always resulted in both an email and a PM. Or do I misunderstand the point?

Edit: and yes, Emmanual did contact me. Is it too late to ask for my money back

I think you can choose whether or not you get the eMail via your own mail server. Otherwise, it sits on the FWFR site until accessed. Yes? No?

PS Just checked my FWFR mailbox and the dreaded thing is there - but will now delete it. My own mail server has prob'ly filtered it out as spam since I never got it at home.

Yep, that's why I brought it up in the first place. [See original post.]

Sorry. For some reason, I thought the guy had registered here, and sent emails to everyone, but not private FWFR messages, which he had only sent to me. I thought I was special.

Stop thoying with my heart, Emmanual Thoya!
