Sorry- I only just discovered this thread. I'll lock down the account, but I guess there's nothing to stop them signing up on another.

I'll start thinking about ways of stopping this or at least barring users from emailing you.

"Scambaiting" highlights how much truth there is in the old saying, "you can't cheat an honest man." They fall for it the same way most of their victims do: someone makes them an offer that sounds way too good to be true, because it is. But their greed clouds their judgement and they get taken for a ride. I had a boss that strung a guy along for several weeks with emails, starting with, "I'm intrigued by your offer, but I was wondering if it would be possible to invest much more than just the $1000 you're asking for." The guy actually flew from Lagos to Tokyo, where he was supposed to pick up the money. Needless to say, my boss never showed up with the money.

It's a very dangerous game...it's best not to have fun at the expense of criminals. But the guy got what he deserved, and I got a good laugh from the email updates.

It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I signed up for my account, so I don't recall if you verify email addresses before accounts become activated. That wouldn't guarantee this sort of abuse wouldn't happen, but it would at least require an extra step before they could start SPAMing. If nothing else, it will make it less convenient.

I got this scam/spam too. I never heard of it before until now and wanted to see if anyone else here wrote about it before I did anything further. I hate to be a "Thoyal thport," but I just deleted it.

I'd be happy to help him out ... a moving car, boat or plane.
